President of the European Institute for International Economics (EIIW)/University of Wuppertal. Welfens is author of The Global Trump (see talk at UC Berkeley), An Accidental BREXIT and recent papers on the Coronavirus Pandemic; he is a non-resident senior research fellow at the AICGS/Johns Hopkins University and research fellow at IZA/Bonn, as well as former visiting Alfred Grosser Professor at Science Po, Paris.

The digital seminar will analyze selected medical aspects of the Coronavirus pandemic, including COVID-19 mortality rates. Key fiscal, monetary and structural policy aspects of EU economies facing the Corona shock will be discussed and prospects for international and global cooperation will be highlighted. The challenge of missing US leadership in this international recession as well as financial market instability risks – including the possibility of a Euro Crisis 2 - are also reflected.
