Content and Organization:

Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), as well as Asia are already important trade and investment partner-regions for the European Union (EU). Ongoing negations on trade agreements and political cooperation prove that the interconnectedness of the EU with LAC as well as Asia will further increase in the future. You will learn about the nature and volumes of EU trade and foreign direct investment (FDI) actions towards LAC and Asia. Furthermore, you will acquire hands-on knowledge through guest lecturers from the European Central Bank, the Interamerican Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank, as well as from scientists that specialize their research on trade or investment in specific countries of LAC or Asia.

At the end of the seminar you are required to present a seminar paper. You can choose the topic of your seminar paper in consultation with the lecturer by yourself or can choose from a pool of seminar paper topics. Seminar papers can either be written individually or in groups of 2-4 students. In order to improve the quality of your paper and receive feedback from the lecturer or the other students, you are additionally required to hold a short presentation of your seminar paper before handing it in.

This proseminar will be held in English, since it is open to both students from the University of Wuppertal and students from the University of Baranquilla (Colombia). This gives you the opportunity to expand your horizon towards the international scientific community and to improve your English reading and writing skills. It is however possible to write your seminar paper in German or Spanish, as well as in English.
